Last week, Elliana Lamprianidou and Cindy Eira Nunes “infiltrated” as psychologists the Conference of the European Sociological Association in Porto! They presented their work on parents’ gender beliefs and their parental involvement, which combines insights from developmental and social psychology, sociology, and gender studies.

Focusing on gender essentialist beliefs in the context of parenthood (the idea that women, as mothers, are allegedly “naturally” better at caregiving), they proposed approaches that consider both family dynamics and the broader macro- and cultural context of gender (in)equality when studying parenting.  Be sure to check out the presentations of Elliana and Cindy!

It is often said that interdisciplinary work is so important, yet it’s not always obvious where to start. Hopefully, this experience was just the first of many to come!
