A new SAFE-SORRY scientific article has just been published! This study, conducted in collaboration with Australian (Melanie J. Zimmer-Gembeck), Swiss (Grégoire Zimmermann), and Belgian (Bart Soenens & Stijn Van Petegem) colleagues, explores how adolescents perceive different forms of intrusive parenting.
The results, based on data from 512 Australian adolescents, suggest that overparenting can take different forms. A more controlling form appears to be associated with higher levels of psychological distress and lower perceived parental support. In contrast, a form that is more focused on accompanying and supporting adolescents appears to be associated with greater parental support and better psychological adjustment.
